Three people were beaten in the already confirmed shooting in the city of Uppsala in eastern Sweden, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA, citing police.
The case is under investigation, and authorities are looking for a suspect, Swedish news agency TT reported.
Earlier today, police said they had received calls from citizens who said they had heard a noise in the city center that sounded like gunshots, and that emergency services had gone to the scene of the incident.
"It has been confirmed that three people have died after a shooting... Police are investigating the incident as a murder," investigators said in a statement.
Witnesses tell the Swedish National SVT television reported hearing five gunshots and seeing people in the area running for cover.
In February, ten people were killed in the city of Örebro in the country's deadliest mass shooting. A 35-year-old man opened fire on students and teachers at an adult education center, Reuters reported.
Sweden has been plagued by a wave of gang-related and gun violence for more than a decade. Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson's right-wing minority government came to power in 2022 on a promise to crack down on gang violence. The government has introduced stricter laws and given more powers to the police, and after the Örebro shooting, it said it would seek to tighten gun laws.
