The Ukrainian side is ready to make territorial concessions to resolve the conflict, but does not want to recognize this legally, said US President's special envoy for Ukraine Keith Kellogg in an interview with Fox News.
"The Ukrainians are ready to cede the territories that Russia actually occupies, but not to recognize this legally forever. They agree with this option. They understand that when a ceasefire is established, each side will remain in the positions it occupies. This is what they are ready for. Last week they told me that they had already discussed this agreement. A ceasefire along the current lines is what they are ready for," he stressed.
The United States is not giving up its mediation efforts to resolve the conflict in Ukraine, Kellogg said.
Last night, Trump expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that the United States is simply pouring money into Ukraine, blaming former head of the Washington administration Joe Biden for this.
“When I came here, I asked “How much money have we given to Ukraine? The real figure is about $350 billion, which is unthinkable, and we had nothing there to provide it“, Trump said at a regular meeting of his cabinet.
“We gave money like it was throwing itself out the window. And Biden did that. And this is Biden's war. This is not Trump's war. I'm trying to get out," the president stressed.
Earlier, the British newspaper Financial Times reported that Kiev and its European allies fear that Washington may withdraw from talks on a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine as early as this week.
According to the publication's source in government circles of one of the European countries, Trump is "preparing a situation in which there will be a pretext to withdraw."
On April 24, Trump told reporters that the question of whether the United States could end its mediation efforts, as well as provide military assistance to Kiev, could be raised in two weeks.
