The Minister of Health Dr. Galya Kondeva issued an order prohibiting the export of a medicinal product for premature children, BNT reported.

It is used to prevent serious diseases of the lower respiratory tract caused by the respiratory syncytial virus.

The medicinal product is unique in the international non-proprietary name Palivizumab and is included in the Positive Drug List. The lack of a substitute increases the importance of its presence on the territory of the country. At the same time, it is clear that parents of premature children cannot find the drug in the pharmacy network in the country.

The analysis of the available information shows that as of 20.11.2024 very few packages of the medicinal product are available, which puts at risk the regular supply of the pharmacy network during the period of greatest activity of the respiratory syncytial virus.

In order to guarantee the needs of Bulgarian children and to provide the medicinal market with sufficient quantities of the product, Minister Kondeva issued a ban on its export, which comes into force on 23.11.2024. until 20.01.2025 Along with this, a new order was issued extending the ban on the export of insulins and analogues, other drugs approved for the treatment of type 2 diabetes and antibiotics for systemic use in children. The period of validity of the ban is again until January 20, 2025.
