Chinese scientists have developed a fifth-generation (5G) mobile communication system that can travel over rough terrain and provide data exchange for 10,000 users, including combat robots, the South China Morning Post (SCMP) newspaper reported.
The world's first mobile base station of its kind provides “extremely secure and reliable data exchange services“ within a radius of up to 3 km. The system was jointly developed by China Mobile Communications Group and the People's Liberation Army (PLA). Even if PLA units move at speeds of 80 km/h through difficult terrain such as mountains or cities and are subject to electromagnetic interference, the system can still maintain a continuous total throughput of 10 gigabits per second and latency of less than 15 milliseconds.
China is now creating the largest remotely controlled “robot army“, reports SCMP. on Earth, comprising powerful but inexpensive drones, self-propelled robots and other forms of unmanned combat platforms that are expected to outperform human soldiers on the battlefields of the future.
