The American technology giant Amazon wants to acquire the social network TikTok, The New York Times reports. This would involve a full purchase of TikTok's American assets. A letter expressing Amazon's desire to acquire the social network was sent to US Vice President J.D. Vance and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. The parties involved in the negotiations do not take this proposal seriously, but Amazon is the largest company that has expressed a desire to acquire TikTok. US President Donald Trump has previously said that he would not want to block the social network TikTok and expressed confidence that a deal to sell the platform would be concluded. After taking office on January 20, Trump signed an executive order aimed at postponing the blocking of this platform in the US for at least 75 days (until April 5). He also told reporters that the US should have the right to half of TikTok, but did not explain exactly what that meant.
The 46th US President Joe Biden signed a law in 2024 that forces the Chinese corporation ByteDance to sell or terminate TikTok's US operations by January 19 of this year. According to CNBC, the US administration is looking for potential candidates to buy 50% of TikTok's shares.
