US Vice President J.D. Vance said that an agreement to sell TikTok, which would allow the social network to continue operating in the US, is likely to be reached by April 5.
“There will almost certainly be an agreement that I believe will satisfy our national security concerns and allow for a separate legal entity in the US for TikTok“, Vance said in an interview with NBC News aboard Air Force Two.
On January 20, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order after taking office that aims to postpone the blocking of this platform in the US for at least 75 days (until April 5).
He also told reporters that the US should have the right to half of TikTok, but did not explain exactly what that means. Trump previously said he had "warm feelings" for the platform because the votes of its young American users helped him win the November 2024 election. Earlier, Liu Pengyu, the press secretary of the Chinese embassy in Washington, in a comment to TASS, compared the situation surrounding the possible ban of TikTok in the US to robbery.
The 46th US President Joe Biden signed a law in 2024 that forces the Chinese corporation ByteDance to sell or terminate TikTok's operations in the US by January 19, 2025. According to CNBC, the US administration is looking for potential candidates to buy 50% of TikTok's shares.
