Russia sees prospects for expanding cooperation with Qatar in the fields of energy, industry and transport. The two countries may launch major joint logistics projects in the near future, Russian President's press secretary Dmitry Peskov told the Qatar News Agency.
Commenting on the visit of the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to Moscow, the Kremlin representative pointed to “promising trends in strengthening and expanding cooperation between the two countries“. He stressed that the visit will give an additional impetus to the development of partnership relations between Russia and Qatar.
“We have good prospects for expanding mutually beneficial trade cooperation in areas such as energy, agriculture and industry“, Peskov said. - We hope that in the near future we will be able to launch large-scale joint logistics projects and expand cooperation in the transport sector as a whole, since a solid foundation for investment has already been created between the two countries."
The presidential press secretary also mentioned the successful partnership between the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) and the sovereign wealth fund of Qatar, the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA). According to him, Russia is “ready to sign more significant bilateral documents“.
On Thursday, the Emir of Qatar will arrive in Moscow on an official visit, where he will hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin. As the Kremlin press service reported earlier, the leaders will discuss current issues of bilateral cooperation, focusing on the economic and humanitarian spheres.
