Dr. Grigor Tomov has been released on bail, BulNews agency learned.
Today, a three-member panel of the District Court – Vratsa today overturned the decision of the Regional Court in the city, by which the former manager of the Complex Oncology Center in Vratsa was placed under house arrest. Instead, a measure of procedural coercion “cash guarantee” in the amount of BGN 10,000. The main motive of the magistrates is the state of health of the accused, established after a complex forensic medical examination.
We remind you that Dr. Tomov has been charged with embezzlement – crime under Art. 201 para. 1 of the Criminal Code.
„The Court of Appeal ruled that a complex forensic medical examination be carried out regarding the state of health of Grigor Tomov following a request by the defendant's defense for its appointment and an opinion on the merits of this request by the prosecution.
The conclusion of the three doctors who prepared the expertise is that the immobilization of the accused through the measures “retention in custody” and “house arrest” would negatively affect his state of health and lead to the regression of his diagnosed diseases.
The court took into account this opinion and the circumstances under Art. 56 para. 3 of the Criminal Procedure Code and found that the most adequate measure of remand was “monetary bail”, according to a press release from the court.
We remind you that in 2022 Dr. Grigor Tomov suffered a severe accident and was in a coma for months fighting for his life. In the end, he miraculously survived, but it affects his health to this day.
