It is very important for the European Union to bring institutions closer to societies, companies and citizens. Bulgaria has a key role in the European Union. This was said by the President of the European Council Antonio Costa at the beginning of a meeting with President Rumen Radev at “Dondukov“ 2.
Bulgaria is doing very well on the path to joining the euro, said Antonio Costa, quoted by BTA.
The unprecedented dynamics in geopolitical processes require us to decisively rethink security issues, build adequate defense capabilities and overcome fragmentation in the European defense industry. This was said by President Rumen Radev at the beginning of his meeting at “Dondukov“ 2 with the President of the European Council Antonio Costa, who is visiting us.
In his words, this dynamic also requires an even more active European Union, which should establish itself as a guarantor of peace and security not only on our continent, but also globally. Therefore, achieving strategic autonomy should be a conscious goal of each member state, and this means a strong competitive European economy, said President Radev.
I am convinced that our future is directly dependent on our ability to transform the enormous potential of the European economy into a competitive advantage based on innovation, high technologies and artificial intelligence, he also said, emphasizing that Bulgaria is actively engaged in these processes.
You will see for yourself that the Bulgarian defense industry has rich traditions and an established place in global markets, being among the leaders in Europe in the production of ammunition and light weapons, said the President of the European Council.
Our companies are constantly expanding their portfolio with new high-tech products and are ready to join common European projects, and we rely on your cooperation in this direction, he added.
Joining the eurozone is based on objective criteria. So far, everyone is impressed by the significant progress made by Bulgaria in fulfilling the various criteria. This was stated by the President of the European Council Antonio Costa at a briefing in the Council of Ministers after a meeting with Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov.
Costa stated that his visit to Bulgaria comes at an important moment - when Bulgaria is concretizing an important achievement for the expansion of Schengen and in a very good, ongoing process for adopting the euro.
We expect the last two reports with an assessment in June - by the European Commission and the European Central Bank, Costa indicated. I hope that the assessment will be positive and if so, we will be able to make a positive decision in the European Council and then a final decision by the European Parliament, he added.
