Stefan Burjev: BSP presents a surprise in the parliament - 1

BSP presents a surprise in the parliament – new names for chairman. The possibility of Dragomir Stoynev or Ivan Ivanov being promoted came hours before the eighth attempt to choose first between equals. Since Wednesday, Petar Kanev's name has been in the news. MPs of the BSP-United Left are meeting today to consider their next moves, MP Stefan Burjev told BNT.

According to him, it is important to hear the arguments. According to him, the deputies were late with the election of the Speaker of the National Assembly. We cannot give in to violent pressure, Bourjev said.

The eighth vote for the Speaker of the 51st Parliament is to be held today. Until now, BSP-United Left has officially and consistently nominated Nataliya Kiselova for its proposal, but it does not receive support, as Raya Nazaryan, GERB, and Silvi Kirilov go to the runoff seven times, the latter as a proposal of ITN for the election of temporary chairman the oldest Member of Parliament.

On Wednesday as a rumor, and yesterday also semi-officially - not as a nominee, but as a name discussed in the cabinets - the BSP-United Left came out with the proposal for Petar Kanev.

Stefan Burjev was adamant that BSP-United Leftists acts on principle and insists that their candidate be elected. According to him, the party has at least 4 people as head of the parliament, such as Ivan Ivanov and Dragomir Stoynev.

„The new candidacies are a chance for a real election and a chance for this National Assembly to start. I sincerely hope that new candidates will be proposed, because we must give this National Assembly a chance. Everything going so far suggested a snap election – This is by no means the expectation of the Bulgarian society, commented the temporary chairman of the BSP Atanas Zafirov yesterday upon entering the parliament.

He called for “a little time to look at all the possible candidates”.

„Mr. Kanev is a good, reasonable candidate from among the possible candidates, which I hope will meet possible support, since he also meets this characteristic that we set from the beginning. He is a non-partisan person, a person from the citizen quota, a person with a good name in society and a person with experience who can guarantee such stability and predictability in the work of the National Assembly, he said.

According to him, Silvi Kirilov's candidacy is unacceptable because “apparently we were not electing a candidate for Speaker of the National Assembly, but a candidate for Prime Minister”.

„We did our best – six times we raised Assoc. Kiselova and we think that this is the most suitable of these 240 fellow people's representatives”, said socialist Borislav Gutsanov, who noted that Kiselova is a constitutionalist, stood against changes to the Constitution and there is no parliamentary group, including from the right, which not to have used her as a consultant.

„And at one point they didn't want to choose her, to be honest, raises a lot of doubts. If there are any dependencies, it should be looked at here, and not some slips that we witnessed,”, he also said.

Let us also see the global framework, insisted Burjev. We cannot make hasty decisions, he declared.
