If even today the Speaker of the Parliament is not elected, congratulations to Mr. Sarafov. Unless the president has a different opinion on the matter, he will be the chief prosecutor. This is what he said in the studio of “Hello, Bulgaria” lawyer Velislav Velichkov from the "Justice for Everyone" initiative.
According to him, there are two pre-trial proceedings against Borisov terminated by the prosecutor's office, which Sarafov can reopen at any time. “We in “Justice for Everyone“ we are convinced that the kicking of the ball on the part of GERB, which is tacitly supported by “DPS - A New Beginning”, is with the aim of not having technological time for changes in the Law on the Judiciary to terminate or postpone the selection procedure of Attorney General. In this way, it will not be possible to settle the issue of the unconstitutional stay of Georgi Cholakov in the position of chairman of the Supreme Administrative Court. This technological time is three weeks or two with a shortened term with proposals for the two readings”, commented the lawyer.
In turn, constitutional law professor Orlin Kolev suggested that foreign policy limits major parties from taking more drastic measures to establish power. “ According to the Constitution, any representative of the people could hold the post of chairman of the National Assembly. The rest is a matter of political dialogue and consensus. There is a feeling that all concerned are deliberately trying to waste time, to delay the proceedings. To allegedly try to demonstrate activity, which, however, leads to a dead end”, pointed out Kolev.
In his words, it is constitutionally permissible to form parliamentary groups even without an elected chairman of the National Assembly. “The mandates can also be changed from there, so the path to the elections will be clear. If we continue on this path, soon elections are inevitable, he added.
