A series of powerful thunderstorms will pass through our country in early May, warns Meteo Balkans. Forecasters expect significant rainfall, which may cause flooding in many cities in Bulgaria.
The team of the meteorological portal carefully analyzed the upcoming synoptic situation and found that Bulgaria will be located on the border between two air masses. Several cyclones will pass through the country, which, in combination with the penetrating Mediterranean moisture, will lead to the formation of thunderstorms.
Dangerous weather phenomena will cover the entire Balkan Peninsula, but their intensity will vary in different regions. In some areas they will be weaker, while in others they will reach significant strength, thanks to the mountainous terrain that will support their development.
High temperatures and increased humidity will create favorable conditions for intense rainfall, accompanied by hail and strong winds. Meteo Balkans warns that the storms will bring amounts of over 50-80 liters of rain per square meter.
"It is good to be prepared, because these storms bring with them rainfall of over 50-80 liters per square meter," the meteorological portal notes.
Residents are also advised to pay special attention to the condition of riverbeds and reservoirs, which can overflow their banks during intense rainfall.
