Experts from the European Commission are expected to arrive in Bulgaria today to conduct additional inspections in the herds near Velingrad, in which plague has been detected in sheep, BNT reported.
Currently, the animals remain under quarantine.
The results from the Montpellier laboratory fully confirmed those of the Bulgarian accredited laboratory that there is plague in the herds. The French laboratory, which is a reference for the European Union, also reported that there were antibodies in the blood of the animals, which means that some of them have recovered from the disease and continue to carry the infection. After the inspection by the European Commission experts, it will be decided what measures to take.
A temporary committee will also meet today to inspect and establish facts and circumstances regarding the detected outbreaks of plague and smallpox in animals. It will include hearings from livestock breeders and the Minister of Agriculture and Food.
