Noise-insulating panels will be installed at various points in Varna to reduce noise from automobile traffic, which is a major contributor to the above-average levels. This is included in the plan for reducing noise in the city, which has already undergone public discussion. It is planned that the facilities will be built around the busiest roads in the city and in the central part.
Measurements at 97 points in different areas of Varna show that in places the noise level exceeds the norm by nearly 47%.
"There is a tendency towards an increase in the noise levels that we measure. In the morning and evening, when traffic is most intense, the values are very high. Noise assessment is important and is one of the factors that must and is subject to assessment in view of the health of the population", commented Dr. Donka Demireva, RHI – Varna.
Automobile traffic is the main cause of noise in the city, Varna residents are categorical. According to them, reducing street noise will be difficult. And noise insulation measures are already inevitable and therefore a noise monitoring system will be built in the city to identify places with excess values.
"Also, construction of noise protection screening facilities in places where there are – main boulevards, main road arteries of the city - organization of traffic, optimization of traffic, replacement of road surfaces, regulation of traffic lights", explained Eng. Boryana Pavlova – Directorate "Ecology", Municipality of Varna.
"The trend is towards increasing noise intensity and mainly caused by car traffic, not so much by industrial production, some of which were near "Vladislav Varnenchik" Blvd. are no longer operating…..Another important problem is the noise from construction activities," said Dr. Donka Demireva, RHI – Varna.
According to experts, aircraft traffic over Varna does not have a significant impact on the noise environment. Only in very bad weather conditions do airlines allow themselves to direct their aircraft over residential areas of the city.
