People from Kyustendil and the surrounding villages gathered on the Kyustendil - Sofia road near the scene of the accident, in which an 18-year-old girl died earlier, bTV reported.
With a minute of silence and kneeling, the gathered people honored the memory of the deceased girl. They also laid flowers at the scene of the accident.
The mayor of Kyustendil Municipality Ognyan Atanasov, as well as the chairman of the Municipal Council Dimitar Velinov, also arrived at the scene. The people expressed their dissatisfaction with the problem with the horses that go out on the Kyustendil - Sofia road Sofia and the fact that it has not been resolved for years.
Mayor Atanasov told the gathered people that the road and the lands around it are not municipal. He added that the Municipality has built 10 km of electric fences, and in January 2025 it is going to repair the lighting at its own expense, for which it has permission from the "Road Infrastructure" Agency.
The mayor undertook to organize a meeting with all institutions in the district that are related to the case, in order to solve the problem with the animals crossing the road.
At the suggestion of a woman close to the family, the people will gather again on January 4 at 12:00 to hear from the mayor what has been done on the matter. They called for representatives of the responsible institutions to attend the meeting, BTA reports.
This night, at around 1:20 a.m. on the Kyustendil-Sofia road, in the area of the village of Yabalkovo, an accident occurred between a car and horses that suddenly jumped onto the roadway.
The deceased was an 18-year-old girl who was traveling in the back seat of the car. Two of the girl's companions are being treated in a hospital. Five horses were killed in the incident, and their owner was detained.
The horses have been moved from the roadway and traffic has been restored. Pre-trial proceedings have been initiated, and the prosecutor's office has also been notified.
This is not the first incident with freely moving horses on the roadway in the area. Kyustendil Municipality has taken measures to address the problem over the years by installing an elastic fence and an electric fence.
