Alarming: Breast cancer is "getting younger" drastically - 1

About 3,500 women in Bulgaria are diagnosed with breast cancer every year. However, the state does not have a single register for the exact number of patients. How tumors can be detected earlier and their treatment more effectively - for the first time in 35 years, doctors from different specialties are gathering in Sofia to discuss how to save as many patients as possible from one of the most common cancers.

“Most often, cancer is detected when a woman feels a lump in her breast. She turns to a doctor and from there the chain begins“, explained in “This Morning“ on bTV surgeon Assoc. Prof. Dr. Svilen Maslyankov.

“Over the past 30 years, screening has been introduced in a large part of Europe, covering the entire population. In Bulgaria it is a matter of organization and I hope this will happen as soon as possible“, he commented.

According to him, preventive examinations for breast cancer should become mandatory.

“In some way, even people who do not go for screening should be punished in some way“, is the opinion of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Svilen Maslyankov.

In his words, the disease “is getting younger“ drastically and more and more young people are coming to it.

“For the first time, we surgeons are taking the initiative to organize a conference. The main target is young surgeons“, explained Assoc. Prof. Dr. Svilen Maslyankov.
