For the second time, the Sofia City Court failed to move the case against former investigator Petyo Petrov, better known as Petyo the Euro.
The next hearing is scheduled for February 25. This was reported by the Bulgarian National Radio.
The reason is an irregular procedure for summoning both Petrov himself and the victims of his actions - businessman Iliya Zlatanov, his son and his daughter.
Neither the Zlatanovs nor their lawyer appeared in the courtroom today. It got to the point that the prosecutor called the lawyer, who stated that he had not been regularly summoned and was in Pernik, news.bg revealed.
The Sofia City Court once returned the case to the prosecutor's office, but the higher instance overturned the decision and ordered it to begin on the merits.
Petyo Petrov, whose name is associated with the case surrounding the "Eight Dwarfs" and is missing, is charged with the fact that in the period from October 11, 2019 to March 23, 2020, by using false documents, Petrov received without legal basis, with the intention of misappropriating it, someone else's movable property - 147 coins worth a total of 106,763 leva. and a gold bar weighing 1000 grams, 23.88 carats, worth 109,718 leva, owned by Yavor Zlatanov, as well as a sum of money in the amount of 550,000 euros, with a leva equivalent of 1,085,485.65 leva, owned by Yulia Zlatanova, Yavor Zlatanov and Proletina Zlatanova.
The case of Iliya Zlatanov's "missing gold" dates back to 2020. Then the businessman told the Anti-Corruption Fund about an attempt to have his elevator manufacturing company "Izamet" taken away from him, as a result of which the unraveling of the "Eight Dwarfs" case began. At that time, Zlatanov claimed that 52 gold coins had disappeared from him, which the prosecutor's office later announced were found during a special operation in the family's house.
We recall that on January 21, the Sofia City Court acquired a new chief after the Supreme Judicial Council voted for the candidacy of Russi Aleksiev, who was the only candidate.
A month ago, Aleksiev's name appeared on lists that were associated with the circle of influence of the murdered Martin Bozanov - the Notary. At his hearing on January 21, he denied knowing Notary and described these allegations as speculative.
