The entire world's focus is on what is happening in Saudi Arabia. This was said in the program "The Day Live" on Nova News by sociologist Vasil Tonchev in connection with today's meeting in Riyadh between Russian and American representatives, at which an end to the war in Ukraine is being discussed.
These negotiations will be long and difficult, but it is a fact that they have begun. Ukraine will probably be a demilitarized zone, there will be some peacekeeping forces, but it is not Bulgaria's job to be among those who will be at the forefront of resolving this conflict. The wind of change is now blowing in the direction of easing the conflict and resolving it democratically, Tonchev said.
I think that the positions between the US and Europe will converge or move towards what the US is proposing as a way to resolve the conflict. The US is not giving up on Europe and Ukraine, but is simply proposing another way to resolve the conflict, and I think they will see it through because they are showing great determination. Bulgaria is adapting to the general trend that is going on in the world, the political analyst pointed out.
He also commented on the domestic political situation in our country.
According to him, in the medium term, a "good horizon" opens for the BSP after the party Congress and with a view to their participation in the government. They will be convenient for pushing certain positions, including such as not sending troops to Ukraine, noted Vasil Tonchev.
For a government to be successful, it must have a goal, a direction to strive for. This government has it - the eurozone. In the name of this goal, some rather unpopular decisions must be made - to make cuts in the administration, to tighten financial discipline. This is a very significant goal, I hope this process will be brought to an end. This will give us peace of mind in the medium term, commented the sociologist.
At least within a year ahead, I see the government being stable within the circumstances, but I cannot make a forecast for the future, also in view of the geopolitical instability. There are also many pitfalls that could ruin the government, such as the appointments to the regulators, the confrontation between the two MRFs, as well as possible dissatisfaction of the BSP and MRF - MRF due to failure to fulfill their social demands, Tonchev also said.
