“After the Liberation, we perform miracles in a short period to step into the “shoes” of a people that some countries did not recognize”, said Assoc. Prof. Boni Petrunova, director of the National History Museum. She is categorical that we undoubtedly have our contribution to the freedom we have won.
Asked whether Bulgarians should thank Russia these days as a country that contributed to our freedom, or whether today's Russia has nothing to do with the one it was then, Assoc. Petrunova said: “This Russia, which is waging war in Ukraine today, has nothing to do with that Russia”.
She believes that March 3rd should remain a national holiday of Bulgaria and we should not replace it with May 24th.
“An intelligent person would never put the two dates on the same scale. We have May 24th, which is our holiday, a real, Bulgarian one, which cannot be replaced by anything. It should not be diluted. But March 3rd is a fact. This day should not be canceled. This is the date from which we have our own state again”, said Assoc. Prof. Petrunova
