The European Commission building in Sofia became the object of vandalism by protesting supporters of the "Vazrazhdane" party. The incident provoked a sharp reaction from the co-chairman of "Continue the Change" Kiril Petkov, who published his position on the social network Facebook.
"I strongly condemn the vandalism against the European Commission building in Sofia by Vazrazhdane and their supporters!", Petkov said in his publication.
The former Prime Minister criticized the spread of disinformation about the introduction of the euro, emphasizing the absurdity of the thesis that the single European currency poses a threat to Bulgaria. He recalled the existence of the currency board, which requires that every lev be backed by a euro.
"Corruption is not to blame for Bulgarian poverty, the lack of justice is not the problem, the scoundrels who are even now trying to take over regulators and judicial institutions are not the problem. The euro is the problem... There is no more stupid thesis than this", Petkov pointed out.
According to him, the protest actions aim to divert public attention from the real problems in the country and the appointment of politically convenient personnel in state institutions.
At the end of his publication, Petkov also sharply criticized the inaction of the prosecutor's office in the case: "And the prosecutor's office will focus on the problems with an NGO for Coral, while here it will stand with its eyes wide open and will be completely inactive. Shame!"
