Former Defense Minister Stefan Yanev expressed his position on the geopolitical situation and Bulgaria's place in it during his participation in the program "Offensive with Lyubo Ognyanov" on NOVA NEWS.
Yanev sharply criticized the declaration adopted by the National Assembly regarding the sending of Bulgarian soldiers to Ukraine.
"The National Assembly adopted a declaration that a Bulgarian soldier will not go to Ukraine, as if someone wants something from us. This is an example of how any action can turn into political chewing gum," the former Defense Minister categorically stated.
In the discussion, Stefan Yanev made an important distinction between peacekeeping and peace-enforcing operations. "A peacekeeping operation is conducted where peace has already been established. When we talk about peacekeeping, this means that there are active actions and it is possible for the military contingent to use means, including military ones, to achieve certain goals - the separation of warring forces", he explained.
Regarding the conflict in Ukraine, Yanev expressed the opinion that the war should end at the negotiating table. "An endless war cannot exist. With the arrival of the new American administration, things are going in this direction", he pointed out.
The former minister criticized the Ukrainian leadership: "The country has become carried away by believing its own propaganda that they can be the moral fulcrum of the world, wag a finger at everyone and say – you are wrong".
Stefan Yanev was particularly critical of European leaders: "They conveniently missed many opportunities. Now they are like scalded and wondering what is going on.
Commenting on the "Vazrazhdane" protest, Yanev was categorical in condemning the methods used. "The protest was declared peaceful, but such methods of action are being used," he said, defining such behavior as unacceptable for achieving political goals.
