In the early hours of February 24, a military aircraft C-27J "Spartan" performed two emergency medical missions, providing transport for donor teams and evacuation of a sick child. Crews from the 16th Air Base - Vrazhdebna demonstrated high professionalism in performing tasks of social importance.
The first mission began early in the morning, when a crew with flight number 073 took off at 7:55 a.m. to Varna to transport medical teams from the Military Medical Academy - Sofia and the University Multi-profile Hospital for Active Treatment "Lozenets". The flight was organized in connection with a donor situation that arose at the University Hospital "St. Marina" city of Varna.
The commander of the first crew was Lieutenant Colonel Plamen Donchev, assisted by Assistant Commander Captain Jasmina Hristova and Flight Engineer Captain Mitko Gergov. The aircraft successfully returned to the airport “Vasil Levski&rdash; Sofia at 14:38.
Later that day, a second request was received from the Ministry of Health to carry out a special task – transport of a sick child from the Multi-profile Hospital for Active Treatment “St. Ivan Rilski&rdash; in the city of Razgrad to the University Hospital “Tokuda” in the capital.
A second crew from the 16th Air Base responded immediately to the call, using a C-27J “Spartan” aircraft with flight number 071. The aircraft, piloted by Commander Major Evgeni Zlatanov, Assistant Commander Captain Boris Todorov and Flight Engineer Captain Ognyan Lidanski, took off at 1:16 p.m. for Varna Airport and returned to Sofia at 3:31 p.m.
The Ministry of Defense announced that both tasks of providing transportation for the medical teams and the sick child were successfully completed, confirming the readiness of the Air Force to support civil and humanitarian operations.
