A few days before Bulgaria's National Day, a real battle between man and nature is taking place at the foot of the Freedom Monument on Mount Shipka. Workers and heavy equipment are attacking two-meter snowdrifts of February snow in an attempt to break through and secure the road to the historic peak, BGNES reported.
The Shipka - Buzludzha road is also being cleaned intensively, which will function as a bypass route or emergency route if necessary. Thousands of Bulgarians are expected to climb the Freedom Monument on March 3 to pay homage to the heroes who gave their lives for the freedom of our homeland.
According to information from the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH), during the upcoming three weekends - from March 1 to 3 (Saturday, Sunday and Monday), the weather will be unusually warm for the season, but rainy, which poses additional challenges for the organizers of the celebrations.
Traditionally, solemn ceremonies dedicated to the Liberation of Bulgaria from Ottoman rule will be held throughout the country.
