The special envoy of the US President Richard Grenell has traveled several times to Switzerland to negotiate the restoration and commissioning of the "Nord Stream" gas pipeline, reports the German tabloid "Bild", citing its own information.
"The envoy made several unofficial trips to Switzerland to discuss the deal", the publication said.
Nord Stream AG, the operator of the Nord Stream gas pipeline, is registered in the Swiss canton of Zug.
According to the newspaper, the deal implies that the Americans will act as intermediaries for the supply of Russian gas through "Nord Stream 2".
At the same time, Nord Stream is planned to be restored and rebuilt to transport green hydrogen from Finland to Germany.
The article states that the US government will not participate directly in the agreement - American investors plan to participate in it.
German government circles told the tabloid that they knew nothing about Grenell's meetings in Switzerland. The White House special envoy himself did not confirm his participation in the negotiations.
On Sunday, the Financial Times reported, citing its sources, that the director of the Nord Stream 2 operator Nord Stream 2 AG, Matthias Warnig, intends to resume the gas pipeline with the support of American investors and plans to discuss this with Donald Trump's team. It is alleged that one of the US-led consortiums has already drawn up a plan for a deal with Gazprom, which could be concluded after the sanctions against Russia are lifted.
At the same time, Warnig himself told the publication that he does not participate in discussions with American politicians and business representatives and complies with the restrictions imposed by the States.
The explosions of the Russian gas export pipelines “Nord Stream“ and “Nord Stream 2“ occurred on September 26, 2022. The Kremlin called the incident an act of international terrorism, and the Prosecutor General's Office of Russia opened a criminal case.
