Chakarov: If the repressions against our members do not stop, we will reconsider our support for the majority - 1

If the repressions against members of “Democracy, Rights and Freedoms – MRF“ do not stop, we will reconsider our participation in support of the parliamentary majority. This was stated in Haskovo in front of the Courthouse by Dzhevdet Chakarov, BTA reports. He is in the regional town because of the protest in support of the mayor of Mineralni Bani Myumyun Iskender, who is under “house arrest“.

Being part of the parliamentary majority, we plead for the dismantling of the “Peevski model“. At first, our proposal is that all appointments made that are used as a bludgeon against the people, not only against our representatives, should be suspended, so that there is normality in the functioning of the institutions. Otherwise, this will be a very serious red line for us, which we will not allow to be crossed, and if this continues, we will seriously reconsider our participation in support of the parliamentary majority, Chakarov added.

Members and supporters of “Democracy, Rights and Freedoms – MRF“ from all over the country are in Haskovo today in support of Iskender, who is under house arrest after being detained in a raid on September 20, 2024 on charges of misuse of EU funds. The case is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. today at the District Court - Haskovo, after Iskender filed a petition requesting that his sentence be changed to a lighter one.

The protest is in support of the mayor of Mineralni Bani Myumun Iskender, who remains under house arrest, but also against the repression of our members and sympathizers in the country, said MEP Ilhan Küçük, who is also in Haskovo.
