Anton Stankov: The Prosecutor's Office is creating enemies - increasingly influential ones - 1

“Colleagues from the prosecutor's office must realize that they are creating enemies - increasingly influential ones. And they are making the reform of this institution inevitable“.

He said this in an interview for the program “Face to Face After the News“ Anton Stankov, former Minister of Justice and candidate for Ombudsman, on the clash between the Constitutional Court (CC) and the Prosecutor's Office in the case of the legality of the elections for the 51st parliament.

“The attempt to influence a decision of the Constitutional Court is already beyond the scope of not good manners, but of governing Bulgaria according to the Constitution“, Stankov believes.

The clash between the CC and the Prosecutor's Office came to an end after the CEC announced yesterday that it could not submit to the court the results of the re-entry of the data from the election protocols because the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office (SGP) had requested the materials in the constitutional case.

The Constitutional Court (CC) reacted sharply to this and in an unprecedented address on National Television, the President of the Court, Pavlina Panova, announced that the work of the CC in the case of the legality of the elections.

For its part, the prosecution requested the constitutional judges to provide documents related to the case. But the Constitutional Court refused to report to them on the grounds that it is independent.

The parliament, on the other hand, convened an extraordinary session to hear the dispute between the CEC and the “Information Service“. They decided – tomorrow (Wednesday) by 9 a.m. the recount of the results will be a fact.
