Kaloyan Pargov: Scanning devices can improve the electoral process - 1

This government supposedly started to stabilize the political process and we were shaken by an unprecedented crisis of confidence. This was commented on "The Day Begins with Georgi Lyubenov" by the deputy chairman of the Bulgarian Socialist Party, Kaloyan Pargov.

"Our biggest concern is for the state of the country".

According to Pargov, raising the threshold for entering parliament is not a solution.

"These are just another proposal thrown out at a time of crisis to ignite public attention. Obviously, we need to change the Electoral Code, which has been regularly revised, but its revision does not lead to a better result".

The demographic problem also affects the way votes are counted, said Kaloyan Pargov. According to him, a technological solution could be scanning devices and counting centers.

"For example, the US electoral system - not that it is the best, but in 38 states there are scanning devices that count the ballots in a counting center. In another 11 states there are machines in the polling stations themselves - you cast your vote and it immediately counts it. Manual counting is avoided".

Pargov commented that the last elections were "a breath of fresh air" for the BSP, but there is still a lot of work to be done.
