Both in Bulgaria and Germany, Samuel Finzi is one of the prominent theater, film and television directors. He was born on January 20, 1966 in Plovdiv in the family of the great actor Itzhak Finzi and the pianist Gina Tabakova.
He graduated from the National High School for Ancient Languages and Cultures (NGDEK). He chose his father's path professionally and studied in the specialty "Acting for Dramatic Theater" at the National Academy of Dramatic Arts and Film. In 1989, Samuel Finzi left for Germany, where he built a career – he became a favorite actor on the German theater stage. He is the winner of the most significant national awards in Germany, and in 2015 He also received the award “Actor of the Year“ after a vote by 42 of the most prominent German theater critics.
And in March this year he won “Icarus“ for the leading male role in the play “The Merchant of Venice“. Part of his speech during the ceremony was cut by BNT – the passage in which Finzi thanked “a pilot, but not you, Mr. President“, addressing Rumen Radev, who was present in the hall.
“I wanted to clarify that I am thanking the civilian pilot – everyone can understand whatever they want. I am angry with myself that I had made up my mind, but I forgot to say that I am thanking a pilot who took me from one part of the EU and landed me in another part of the EU – "That would have been a clearer hint," Samuel Finzi told bTV, quoted by FOCUS.
According to him, there were hardly any offended people, they just played it safe on television.
"The reaction to this thing made me understand that they are very sensitive, the slightest movement against or with them causes some kind of nervous reaction," the actor added.
He added that he would be happy if this activity were manifested at the polls, and not just 1/3 of the citizens voting.
