On March 31, the deadline for political parties to submit their annual financial reports for 2024 to the Court of Auditors expires. The documents in paper and electronic format are submitted to the building of the audit institution in Sofia, the department reports.
The parties must also submit standard declarations containing lists of individuals who have made donations, news.bg reported.
The Court of Auditors points out that according to the Law on Political Parties, an annual financial report that does not meet the requirements regarding its form, content and manner of presentation, as well as when it is not accompanied by the declaration with the list of donors, is considered unsubmitted.
The sanction for failure to submit the report is from 5,000 to 10,000 leva. If the financial reports are not submitted or submitted on time to the National Audit Office, political parties lose their right to state subsidies until the next parliamentary elections.
The Office will publish the annual financial reports of the parties on its website by April 15, 2025.
Within 6 months of the expiration of the deadline for submitting the annual financial reports, the National Audit Office shall conduct an audit for compliance with the financial activities, revenues, expenses and management of the provided property of the political parties that received state subsidies in the previous year; used premises provided to them - state or municipal property; participated in elections, if any were held.
