This is a tragic incident and is not the first UN employee to lose his life in Gaza. As far as I am aware, the Bulgarian who died was responsible for the distribution of humanitarian aid in Gaza, which in itself is a very risky task. Let's hope that lessons will be learned from this incident. This was stated in an interview with bTV by the former Foreign Minister of our country, Nikolay Mladenov.
When asked whether it is now clear how our compatriot died, Mladenov replied that it is still difficult to answer with certainty what happened, but according to him it was most likely due to Israeli shelling of the UN building in the region.
The situation continues to be difficult and Israel's new operation is comprehensive and is growing more and more in the Gaza Strip with each passing day. Active hostilities are taking place there, as “Hamas“ has not lost its ability to attack, he added.
Nikolay Mladenov also said that the most important thing is to move towards establishing lasting peace in the region and then to begin the gradual reconstruction of the Gaza Strip from the destruction.
So far, we only see talks about temporarily suspending the response, but we still do not hear about the political framework that will allow Gaza to be restored, Mladenov added.
