The MPs adopted the 2025 state budget on second reading after a plenary session that lasted nearly 22 hours. The budget for this year does not foresee an increase in taxes, and the budget deficit is set at 3% of GDP.
After the end of the session, the Minister of Finance Temenuzhka Petkova thanked everyone who supported the adoption of the 2025 State Budget Act on second reading. She pointed out that this was the responsible and statesmanlike position. Certainly, the 2025 budget could have been better, but the conditions in which it was drawn up made it the possible budget. I hope that with joint efforts we will stabilize Bulgaria's public finances for 2026 as well. to make sure that we have a better budget and that it is the first budget in euros, said Minister Petkova.
Before the end of the session, the deputies accepted the proposal of the MP Maya Dimitrova from "BSP-United Left" not to have a regular plenary session today, March 21.
The deputies voted to approve a total annual quota for the provision of food vouchers on an electronic medium under the Corporate Income Tax Act in the amount of 1.6 billion leva.
According to the adopted texts on the budget of the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy, the total funds provided are 3,513,932,300 leva. For the Ministry of Health, the funding is in the amount of 1,203,828,300 leva. The budget of the Ministry of Education and Science (MES) has allocated funds in the amount of 1,333,961,000 leva.
The funds for the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences are 240,292,200 leva, for Sofia University - 192,336,200 leva. The funds earmarked for the Technical University in Sofia are 141,787,000 leva, and for the one in Varna - 30,800,600 leva. The funds for the Medical University in Sofia are 85,006,900 leva.
