There is no danger of an epidemic in Sofia due to the refusal of the Sofia Municipality to accept waste from hospitals at the municipal enterprise for their treatment. This was announced by the Deputy Mayor for Ecology Nadezhda Bobcheva.
The reason for the Municipality's refusal was once again found to be mixing household and hazardous medical waste.
Today, not a single biological waste has arrived at the waste processing plant, she informed:
"There is no danger of an ecological crisis. What we are doing is prevention, as we are carrying out extremely strict control at the entrance to the waste processing plant. No waste has been transported from any hospital today. Last night, inspections were carried out by the Sofia Inspectorate in several hospitals. There have been violations.
The relevant authorities involved have been notified - the RHI, the Sofia Regional Health Inspectorate and the RIEW - Sofia, to take action on this. In one of the cases, we had sent letters to absolutely all hospitals with instructions on how to treat hazardous waste, how to treat household waste. As you can see, this continues".
