"The expansion of "Chiren" is absolutely mandatory. The idea was to increase the capacity by 20%. As far as I know, there are two compressors installed. Installing the compressors is only part of the task. We need to see how to increase the pressure so that there is more gas in it. Research needs to be done to see if the pipes could withstand higher pressure," said energy expert Yavor Kuyumdzhiev on the "Day ON AIR" program.
"I would not sign such a contract if I were in the situation to sign. It is not impossible when the war in Ukraine ends, and even now... Gas is exported to Ukraine and Moldova through the Bulgarian gas transmission network. This contract can be used for gas supplies to these countries. I would not rush to say that this contract is completely bad," the expert believes.
There are many private companies that could use it and enter this structure. Kuyumdzhiev noted to Bulgaria ON AIR.
The power plants are shutting down. TPP "Maritsa East" 2 must continue to operate for at least a few more years, because without it we cannot satisfy our electricity needs. For several years to come, we cannot do without coal-fired power plants, the energy expert emphasized.
"There was an unsuccessful attempt to repair the PPP "Chaira". Repair there is a very complicated thing. Probably by the end of 2025, all four units will be operational. Now one of them is joining the system and helping," the guest also said.
Yavor Kuyumdzhiev pointed out that we still do not have a strategy for the development of the Bulgarian energy sector.
