"It's high time for a generational change in the MRF. Everything should be restructured and built from scratch - like it used to be. No one who had financial and economic connections has anything new to offer".
This was stated to the Bulgarian National Radio by political scientist Mehmed Mehmed, after Ahmed Dogan's faction left the ruling majority and withdrew its support for the government of Rosen Zhelyazkov.
The reason is that the "Peevski" model has not been dismantled. The decision was made at the joint meeting of the Central Operational Bureau and the PG of the MRF-DPS.
"For me, this was the most logical move they should have taken. To support the government, after they have been ignored and after it is clearly seen that it is also supported by Delyan Peevski's MRF, is a strategic mistake. Especially now, when we all expect early elections - they will be in this position - neither to have any real participation in power, nor to have a "sanitary cordon" around Peevski. It brings them neither political dividends, nor anything", Mehmed explained in the program "Something More".
The key may have been with the MRF youth, the political scientist also explained.
"Now they have greatly overpowered the political ambitions of those in power. The youth are more ideologically connected to the party and have a more idealistic view of things, unlike the old cadres who are already entangled in the schemes of Bulgarian political reality.
Mehmed Mehmed comments on why in the past, breakaways in the MRF such as Kasim Dal, Guner Tahir and Osman Oktay failed to tear apart the body of the Movement, while now Peevski succeeds.
"The mistake of the previous breakaways was to rely on ideology. Financial and economic interests and connections largely determine politics and votes.
For years, a Frankenstein was being built, which they now have no right to complain about. MRF is at the heart of Peevski".
