Prof. Kiril Topalov: It's not a myth! The Pope loved Bulgarian yogurt - 1

"It's not a myth! The Pope loved Bulgarian yogurt." This was revealed to "This Morning" on bTV by diplomat Prof. Kiril Topalov, who was Bulgaria's ambassador to the Vatican from 2013 to 2019.

His mandate as ambassador to the Holy See began a few months after the Argentine cleric was elected pope in 2013. During Prof. Topalov's mandate, preparations for his visit to Sofia, which took place on May 5-7, 2019, also began.

During his visit to Bulgaria, the Pope revealed why he wanted to visit our country so much, said Prof. Topalov, and quotes the now deceased Francis:

"Some people ask why I wanted to visit Bulgaria so much and the Bulgarian ambassador worked so hard for the visit. Even as a baby, I was fed Bulgarian yogurt by my Argentine grandmother. Even then, I wondered what kind of country this was that made this yogurt."

And he added: "According to protocol, when receiving a new ambassador, the letters of credence are handed over in about 15 minutes, we talked for an hour and a half."
