We have been in the eurozone since 1997 at 80% because of the fixed exchange rate to which we are tied through the currency board, etc., so de facto people are used to the euro, without fully understanding it, or at least a part of the people. Such a comment was made by the chairman of the Bulgarian Business Leaders Forum (BBLF), Levon Hampartzumyan, quoted by "Focus".

"There has been high inflation in recent years all over the world – with euros, with Mongolian tugriks, with Japanese yen, with US dollars, etc. So it is not the system of currencies or currency systems that cause inflation.

There are other things that influence this.

This is not Croatia's problem. Croatia has certain problems in the economy, which, on the one hand, cause inflation.

"Elections may be held because we have relatively weak politicians who have difficulty negotiating with each other, forming coalitions, and so on. Inflation cannot be a reason for elections, of course, or at least this inflation that we observe around us.

We may have elections, but not because of the adoption of the euro. Adoption of the euro is a national goal, let's say. Obviously, the economically active and more reasonable part of society has this as a national priority and a national goal for this year.

But this is not a panacea that will solve all the problems in the economy, all the problems in politics. This is simply a step towards our higher integration with the key European countries, as well as a geopolitical anchor that keeps us strongly attached to the same countries," said Hampartzumyan.
