„The Prosecutor's Office is not clear and instead of collecting evidence, it creates the impression that it is not applying the law, but that it is seeking a media effect“. This is what former Acting Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Ivan Demerdzhiev said about the accusation raised against him by the Prosecutor's Office for mismanagement in the Ministry of Interior.

It is investigating him for corruption in the Ministry of Interior for the construction of the system for issuing Bulgarian personal documents.

„These are some of the most secure and best-designed Bulgarian personal documents in Europe and in the world. For nearly six months, all responsible teams in the Ministry of Interior worked on this order to verify whether there was a basis for indexing the price and by how much exactly it should be indexed. And shortly before the end of this procedure, all materials were presented to the Public Procurement Agency, which considered that the grounds were there and that the way we aimed to calculate the indexation was absolutely correct“, he commented.

“If the prosecution wanted to be clear, it would have called me, heard my position and requested evidence and documents“, Demerdzhiev added.

He denied having participated in any chats.

Demerdzhiev stated that he could not understand exactly what he was accused of, and he also appealed the imposed measure of detention “cash bail“ in the amount of 10,000 leva.

“If there is mismanagement, and I claim that there is not, then it was carried out by Peevski's minister. I know many more things and they will reach the Bulgarian citizens,“ said the former Minister of Internal Affairs.

According to Ivan Demerdzhiev, a media haze has been created with the accusation of mismanagement in the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
