Siyana's murder is a public execution - by the state and by a repeat traffic offender. Nothing has been done since her death. While the topic was highly publicized in the media, for 10 days there was not a single person killed on the road. I can stay home, suffer and remain silent. But how many more children will be like Siyana - literally smeared in coffins. I could not see my child. I have set out on this path and will lead him to the end. If someone wants to stop me - I have bought a grave next to my child, only a bullet can stop me. This was said by Nikolay Popov - the father of Siyana, who died in the serious accident, in the studio of “Your Day” on NOVA NEWS.
„Do you know how I enter her room, how I look at her things. And this is not just one child in Bulgaria, every child can be like mine. I want this to stop - this madness, these murders”, he shared.
„Siyana's grandfather is disabled, inadequate, he doesn't know where he is”, he also shared.
Popov pointed out that relatives are already warning him not to enter into a battle with the institutions to protect him, but he categorically will not give up.
The father asked how it is not a deliberate crime on the part of the driver, given that he was driving at high speed and on such a road.
Popov said that when an accident occurs „we, in our country, always start making legislation according to the events of the day”. In his words, what the Ministry of Justice is proposing is the right step.
The Chairman of the Union of Bulgarian Motorists Emil Panchev commented that it has been established that on the road where Siyana died, there are “at least four types of asphalt of different quality and different grip and wear”. He stated that “this is a murder that is committed daily in Bulgaria”.
The father said that he wants the Prosecutor General to direct the investigation to the responsible institutions.
He emphasized that he wants the resignation of Desislava Paunova – director of the Directorate “Road Safety and Planning of Activities under the Road Safety Act”, since “she is directly responsible for what is happening”.
“During her time, 46 people burned in the Macedonian bus. Since then, several heads of the RIA have changed, but it remains the same, it has even been promoted”, he added.
Panchev commented that there is activity regarding road safety in the country and expressed hope that this will continue. He also said that if the plans and strategies continue to be implemented formally, nothing will happen towards improving the situation.
According to him, 70% of those who take the driving license exam for the first time manage to pass it. He added that this is not relevant.
Panchev said that many more changes need to be made in the direction of road safety.
