President Rumen Radev will participate today in the 10th Summit of the “Three Seas“ initiative in Warsaw, Poland, the press service of the head of state announced. Rumen Radev arrived yesterday on a two-day visit to the country.
The regional format for deepening cooperation and promoting connectivity in the energy, transport and digital spheres unites 13 EU countries: Bulgaria, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia, Austria, Croatia, Romania, Greece. Ukraine and Moldova are associated member states, and strategic partners of the “Three Seas“ are Germany, the European Commission, the USA and Japan.
The high-level meeting will be accompanied by a business forum, during which various projects for the development of regional transport, energy and digital connectivity will be presented and discussed. Head of State Rumen Radev, whose delegation also includes representatives of Bulgarian institutions and Bulgarian business, will participate in the presidential panel of the forum, the press secretariat informs.
Last year's high-level meeting of the "Three Seas" initiative was held on April 11 in Vilnius, Lithuania, and in parallel with the forum, which takes place in the Palace of the Grand Dukes, the sixth business forum within the framework of the political project is also taking place, in which over 1,000 representatives of governments, companies and non-governmental organizations participate, the "Reference" department indicates. of BTA.
Upon his arrival at the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania, President Rumen Radev pointed out that Bulgaria has made the most of the "Three Seas" initiative, while at the same time emphasizing the Bulgarian contribution by giving primary importance to the project of innovation and scientific research.
The "Three Seas" initiative
The "Three Seas" initiative is not institutionalized and does not have a headquarters and secretariat. A high-level meeting is held every year, and a business forum has also been organized since 2018, the "Reference" department of BTA indicates. At the fourth high-level meeting of the initiative on June 5 and 6, 2019. in Ljubljana, Slovenia, a decision was made to establish an international investment fund to support the implementation of priority projects in the region of the countries of the initiative.
Bulgaria is hosting the sixth high-level meeting, held on July 8 and 9, 2021 in Sofia. The meeting is accompanied by a business forum, in which over 400 representatives of Bulgarian and foreign business will participate.
Croatia will take over the chairmanship of the "Three Seas" initiative from Poland.
