A 300-meter-long and 100-meter-wide ecoduct will be built over the Sibiu-Pitești highway in neighboring Romania. This makes it the widest bridge ever in our northern neighbor. The investment is worth 1.08 billion EUR. Its goal is to allow the safe passage of animals from the Southern Carpathians.
The ecological bridge will be located near Cornetu. There, the highway enters the Olt Valley between the mountains.
The reason the bridge is so large is that it must facilitate the crossing of three obstacles: DN7, the CF201 railway line and the Olt River.
The construction of the ecoduct will begin at the end of June. The plans are to put it into operation in early 2027.
