A tender will be held in the coming months for the construction of a modern railway across the Bosphorus. Turkish authorities are currently negotiating with the World Bank for financing the project. It will be implemented on the Yavuz Sultan Selim suspension bridge, which is known for being one of the longest and widest bridge structures in the world.
The railway line will be the key link on the transport route between Asia and Europe. “We have almost secured financing for the 120-kilometer line that will run from Gebze to Sabiha Gökçen, the Yavuz Sultan Selim bridge, the new Istanbul airport to Halkali. The tender for the contractor will be held in the coming months,“ said Turkey's Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu.
Turkey's infrastructure development plan includes the development of transport links, metro, international cooperation and digital infrastructure. The development plan for the railway network is to increase it from the current 13,919 km to 17,500 km by 2028. In the long term, the network should grow to 28,500 km.
Work is also underway at a rapid pace to put the national electric train into operation, which will reach speeds of up to 225 km/h.
