Smuggled cigarettes hidden in furniture were discovered by inspectors of the “Customs“ Agency and police officers of the Ministry of Interior's Regional Office - Haskovo during an inspection of a truck entering the country from Turkey.

On December 22, 2024, a truck with Turkish registration arrived at the “Kapitan Andreevo” MP. The driver - a Turkish citizen - presented documents to the customs officers for the transported goods, part of which was furniture from Turkey to the United Kingdom and the Netherlands.

Using the “risk analysis” method, the vehicle was selected for a thorough customs inspection, including with X-ray equipment, during which unusual densities in the transported goods were noted. During the control actions, it was found that in 15 of the furniture - cabinets with mirrored coverings, boxes of cigarettes were hidden. The total quantity of the seized contraband tobacco products is 15,000 boxes (300,000 pieces) of cigarettes with a foreign excise stamp with a market value of 96,000 leva.

A pre-trial investigation has been initiated in the case by an investigating customs inspector under the supervision of the District Prosecutor's Office - Haskovo.
Since the beginning of the year, nearly 23,300,000 pieces of cigarettes have been seized at the Kapitan Andreevo Police Station.
