The son of a high-ranking CIA official has died on the front lines in Ukraine fighting for Vladimir Putin's army, NBC News reported.

The deceased, Michael Gloss, is the son of Julian Galina Gloss, who is the CIA's deputy director for digital innovation. A spokesman for the intelligence agency confirmed the information, which was also reported by Russian media.

The 21-year-old American had signed up to serve in the Russian forces. He had mental health issues, his family confirmed.

A CIA spokesman said Galina and her family “suffered an unimaginable personal tragedy in the spring of 2024 when her son Michael Gloss, who had struggled with mental health issues, died fighting in the conflict in Ukraine.”
