Exactly a year ago, Sliven was shaken by a cruel attack. A man tried to set fire to and burn his ex-girlfriend and their infant child alive. The man received a year in prison and is about to be released, but the mother appealed the decision, bTV reports.
The verdict comes from the District Court in Sliven, and the District Prosecutor's Office did not protest it.
In the early morning hours of February 9, exactly 12 months ago, Iskra Koleva and her infant child experienced a trauma that is still being treated by specialists to this day.
„My ex-boyfriend and father of my minor child attempted murder by dousing me and him with flammable liquid. Early in the morning we were in the car with the little one – then 2 and a half years old. He saw us and met us near the house, started screaming, insulting, then took out the bottle of gasoline and doused us both, he had also taken out a lighter“, she recalls.
She says that then her life and her child's life were saved, thanks to random passers-by. And today she is preparing for the possibility that her ex - Nikolay Ivanov, will be released.
„We are trying to be okay, for now the child is okay, but in a possible case of violence – again on his part, I don't know what the consequences will be“, explains Iskra.
Lawyer Stefan Kenov represents her in court.
„The criminal proceedings against this man were initiated for three acts. The first is a violation of the domestic violence protection order, then for the preparation of the murder of Iskra and a separate preparation for the murder of her minor child“, he says.
“The case is characterized by particular audacity and cruelty. Usually, when violating a domestic violence protection order, there are insults on the phone, threats, approaching the home, even causing bodily harm – but such cruel cases are rare”, explained attorney Kenov.
The perpetrator has been convicted many times. A few days before the incident with Iskra and her child, he committed another crime – driving under the influence of drugs and resisting arrest.
According to attorney Kenov, the man was probably under the influence of drugs in this case as well, but he was not tested when he was arrested.
