The Supreme Court of Cassation will rule within two months regarding the appealed verdict of Georgi Semerdzhiev in the case of the accident on the capital's "Cherni Vrah" boulevard, in which two young women died in July 2022.
At today's hearing, lawyer Miroslav Hristov requested that the case be returned to the second instance to respond to the defense's objections, which he believes have not been answered, or to reduce the imposed sentence.
According to Hristov, the appellate court did not explain how it is proven that Semerdzhiev caused the accident after using drugs, after he was tested 72 hours after the incident.
According to him, it is not well-founded and the court's opinion that this is a particularly serious case.
“I regret what happened and ask the court for a lesser sentence”, said Georgi Semerdzhiev in his final words before the court.
For its part, the state prosecution took the position that Semerdzhiev's sentence was pronounced correctly and legally, and that it can be confirmed in its entirety.
