Debora's lawyer: There is a danger that Georgiev will leave the country after being released - 1

The case of violence against Debora Mihaylova, who was severely beaten and cut with a machetes, is starting over. Mihaylova's lawyer Slav Daskalov explained that there is a possibility that Georgi Georgiev will be released from custody. “There is a categorical danger that Georgiev will leave the country, even more so after our entry into Schengen. The borders have expanded“, he said. Daskalov specified that by law the accused can spend up to 2 years in custody, and Georgiev has been detained for a year and seven months.

The reasons for the start of the trial are again the recusal of the jury due to a request from the defense of the defendant Georgi Georgiev, because the judge attended protests in support of Deborah, long before the case reached her.

„The protest was against violence against women, not to demonize or lynch Georgi Georgiev. The request was for a fair trial and to stop violence against women. This is not a reason for recusal. Next, this reason for me is completely made up, this is information taken from the personal Facebook page of the juror. Later it turned out that she did not participate, but shared photos from the demonstration“, he added.

According to him, this is „slow“ justice. “This means that the case will start anew. First, a distribution session, then we call all the witnesses and experts and new expert reports are prepared. Last but not least, Deborah will be questioned again. This is a process of victimization of the victim, at the very least it is not fair“, said the lawyer.

From another point of view, according to Daskalov, this gives the accused an advantage. “The trial is continuing for longer than a reasonable period. He will be released from custody, his sentence will be changed to a lighter one“, explained Daskalov.
