"We are financing a stalemate, a prolonged conflict in which Ukraine is destroying itself and losing more and more territory," Rubio said. He believes that even within the ranks of the US Democratic Party, to which former President Joe Biden belonged, they are beginning to realize this.
The head of the US State Department said that it will not be easy for Volodymyr Zelensky to make concessions to resolve the conflict, but he must accept the real state of affairs. “There are also realities of life on this planet, and that direction will determine the work“, Rubio said.
“Both sides have an incentive to end the conflict. “It will not end with the achievement of the maximalist goals of either side“, Rubio said.
“Ukraine has been set back 100 years, its energy system has been destroyed. Someone will have to pay to restore all this. And how many Ukrainians have left Ukraine and are now living in other countries? They may never come back," Rubio added.
The US State Department chief added that the previous US administration "somehow convinced people to believe that Ukraine could not just defeat Russia, but destroy it." As a result, the US is funding "a prolonged stalemate while human suffering continues," Rubio said.
