Ten people were detained in the specialized operation of the General Directorate of Drug Control in Blagoevgrad, which was announced on Wednesday. This was announced during a joint briefing by the prosecutor's office and the specialized service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. During the operation, an organized criminal group engaged in the production, distribution and smuggling of narcotics was dismantled. During the investigation, about 5 kg of cocaine worth over 400 thousand leva were seized.
Charges have been brought against 7 people, with 5 being detained for 72 hours. A request has been submitted for the most severe measure of "detention in custody".
Among those detained is Ognyan Atanasov, known as the "Bulgarian Escobar".
In a short time, large-scale searches, raids and interrogations of witnesses were carried out, the authorities also announced. The law enforcement agencies acted on the basis of collected data about the criminal group, which had been monitored for a year and a half.
