The name of the king of Phthia and the greatest hero in the Achaean camp during the Trojan War - Achilles Peleus - has its exact parallel in the Sanskrit word akhil, akhila, which in the Vedic era in India was also a common male proper name.
The meaning of akhila is "whole, complete, inviolable, indestructible". And also "universe", since Sanskrit concepts have multiple meanings, referring to both the earthly, human - and the divine, heavenly world. It is interesting that in Sanskrit akka is "mother", and from the myth we know what a huge role in the life of Achilles his mother Thetis played with her superhuman, divine abilities and nature.
An ancient Aryan, Vedic male proper name is also Kila, which means "destroyer", and its meaning as a common noun is "spear, weapon, wedge, pillar, elbow, fire, flame". The meaning of the Sanskrit verb kil is "to bind, nail". The closeness with the verb kill - "to kill" in the English language is obvious. Etymological dictionaries connect the English kill with the German qualen - "to torture, torment". This German verb can be directly related to the Bulgarian "kaljavam", "zakaljavam" - temper through suffering, fire, etc.
In Kurdish - Indo-European, Anatolian - language, the term kels means "hardened". According to myth, the goddess Thetis, the mother of Achilles, tempered the infant in fire, holding him by the heel of one foot, but her husband Peleus, seized with horror, interrupted this process, not understanding its essence. Thus, Achilles grew up as an invincible warrior, invulnerable, untouchable by any weapon, only his heel - "Achilles' heel" - remained unhardened. In this sense, we can interpret the name Achilles (Akhil) as A-Kil - "unhardened".
What does the name Thetis (Thetis - Θετις) of Achilles' mother mean? As I have written many times - see my articles "Words for relatives(?!)", 2019 (in which I marvel at such a parodic title) and "Titan - origin and meaning of the concept", 2021 - the word "thetis" has a very specific meaning, and it is "breast, bosom, female nursing breast". The word teta is still part of the common Italian language today. The fabrications that the name Thetis, the eponymous granddaughter of one of the six Titanides, means "aunt", that is, "aunt", are a sign of sad ignorance, since the concept "aunt" is also derived from the ancient Indo-European "teta" and is a memory of the times when the mother's sisters or sisters-in-law, in her absence, replaced her in breastfeeding her child - then women had many children, almost constantly breastfed, and the "replacement" of the mother in this regard was possible. So Thetis and "aunt" ("aunt") are in no way identical, but are different derivatives of the same ancient word.
A long time ago (see my article "The Ethnonym Greeks", 2021) I wrote that "The Trojan War was a tragic clash between Pelasgians, in which the Greeks took no part at all. In a number of my texts, published over the years and collected in my book "The Name Bulgaria and the Ethnonym Bulgarians" (ed. July 25, 2024), I have proven that the Trojans - Teucrians, Dardanians, Brigids - are part of the ancient Bulgarian people. And I do not understand the impudence of some people who are currently deafening our ears with the same thesis, beating their chests that they are its first discoverers.
The illiterate people in question "translate" the name of the god Ares as "Yaros(t)", the name of King Priam as "Pryam"("sincere, outspoken"), the name of the hero Achilles as Yakil ("yak"). Let's leave aside the caricatured interpretation of Thetis as "aunt" - "aunt". These ignorant outrages are being spread with less than pure intentions on YouTube and Google - and are being started by Bulgarians thirsting for sensation who have never opened a single historical book in their lives, except for the popular readings in the tabloids. I understand that the apologists of this type of "historical revelations" wish to penetrate the hitherto hidden knowledge about the world civilizing role of the Bulgarians (which is a fact), about the real age of the Bulgarian script - but should we replace one lie with another?
Should we take the bait of other charlatans who allow themselves to "interpret names and concepts" without knowing a single ancient or modern language? Without being able to make linguistic analyses and comparisons? Comic strips like "Yaros" and "Yakil" remind me of the humorous "explanations" of the names Odysseus and Menelaus - like "odi sei" - "go to sow" and "mene lai" - "bark at me". Yes, the name Odysseus has something in common with the Bulgarian verb "ходя", but it is also a super-complex play on words with which Homer tests our intellect - I have explained this name in the dictionary "Imennik na drevnost", with which my book "Atlantes and Giants", ed. 2023, ends.
As for the name of the god Ares - it means neither more nor less "Aryan", "Aryan", with an ancient meaning of "plowman", because before becoming the god of war, Ares had much broader functions - as the god of agriculture and the gifts of the earth (see my book "Peak Bulgaria", ed. 2016). The name Priam, on the other hand, means "stone" - from the Pelasgian word pria ("stone") - and also "first", since the stone is identified with the primary earthly element.
The simplistic interpretation of ancient names and concepts, their direct reduction to words from the modern Bulgarian language - only on the basis of sound similarity - is not always the way to protect the truth about the exceptional antiquity of the Bulgarian race and language. This method should be used cautiously and only by people of high culture, fluent in ancient languages. Otherwise, it leads to distortion, belittling and caricaturing of the just battle waged by nationally minded Bulgarian historians to impose an adequate theory of the origin of our people.
