A cat managed to penetrate the heavily guarded North Lawn of the White House and caused a commotion among journalists, who, in turn, documented and showed the appearance of the gray, green-eyed pet named Sophie on social networks, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
Ultimately, with the help of White House employees, the cat's owner was found.
Sophie even briefly appeared in the famous press conference room, where reporters usually ask questions of Caroline Levitt, the spokesperson for US President Donald Trump.
One of the journalists shared the news of the animal's appearance on the social network "Ex" and explained that Sophie was wearing a collar that was most likely an AirTag, a small tracking device that allows the location of objects and pets via smartphone.
A video of the incident shows a journalist holding the animal in her hands and joking that "it might have some kind of listening device".
Sophie was later returned to her owner.
The perimeter around the White House is one of the most heavily guarded areas in the world. The Secret Service monitors every movement, and the area is guarded 24/7 with cameras and fences.
However, there was another such curious case recently when a small child managed to enter the grounds of the American presidency. The boy seemed to have managed to sneak through the fence unnoticed, but was returned to his parents by security shortly after.
